I have 6 Golden Pencilfish, two males and four females. I've noticed (almost every day) the two males swimming alongside each other and they'll fire up their colours (dark bodies and bright red alongside the black line compared to normally paler bodies) and appear to basically rub up against each other and vibrate. I'm just intrigued to know what they're doing, if anyone knows?

I'll put a video on this evening...

Cheers

It is called flaring. Males of some species will flare to each other when trying to attract females or establish dominance. Some species will do it from a distance, others close up.

Ah so it's to impress the ladies. Thanks for the info.
