these are the same petstores that keeps them in a tiny cup! and yes that is a veiltail, but i wouldnt' say it's blackred imo it's more like a steel-red to me.
But anyways if you could, maybe get a 1G for hte betta?
He's a veiltail and your basic bi-colored blue/red. He's a good looking guy
Don't trust anything the LFS, always check here, Lol. The majority (there are a few exceptions) of employees know didley squat about Bettas and their needs, they're just trying to make a sale. Which kritter keeper is that? The small, medium or large? It looks like either the small or medium going with the height. I use the mediums for some of my Bettas (they hold about 3/4 gallon), but I also do complete water changes every 2 to 3 days (I breed my bettas, so I have alot). For a single pet, you really should think about getting him 2+ gallons, although 1 gallon will do in a pinch. It would give him much more room to swim around and be happy, and give you some room for error with water quality (smaller than a gallon and you have no room for error).
