I moved a rock and out scuttled a colourless shrimp about 1 cm long. I couldn't catch it. What else could it be but a mantis which is going to grow huge munching up everything in my tank?

I wouldn't worry about it. Most likely it was just a 'pod of some sort (perfectly safe and will most likely end up as fish food).

Could well be a mysis shrimps and again its nothing to worry about as they make good food for fish and dont get much bigger ;)

... just a 'pod of some sort ...

I really don't want to spread panic ... :shifty: but I hope it wasn't an isopod like described here:

Read overall this: "About 15 years ago, I had a student who was holding in her clenched hand a 1.5 inch long Aegid. The bug cut through the flesh of her palm, dug in, and started to eat HER."

HORROR it looked just like those things...

If it is one of the parasitic or even carnivorous ones, don't add fish for 2 to 3 months. It'll die of starvation.

I still believe its a pod or a small shrimp of some sort!

Yeah it is much likely to be a harmless pod then anything else. Even if it is a mantis shrimp it is still more likely to be a smaller one that is harmless then a big fish killer.
