Well, yes that may well be the case if she had her babies in the main community tank. For the future if you notice a gravid female, and you can tell because you can see the eyes of the fry through the transparent skin of the female. If you want to rear the fry into adult fish, you can as one method buy a breeding trap from any good lfs. They are fairly inexpensive. Once the fry are born and you've removed the female you can temporarily use the tap as a mini tank until you can buy a small tank and have it cycled etc. then you would transfer the fry into it. You would feed the fry on, and this is my choice, but there are a few others on the market, Liquifry.
When fry are born, they are females and only as they mature do some turn into males. The proportion of females to males are always greater. So if you want males you need to keep plenty of female frys so that they can change. You can then use the unwanted fish as either feeder food for other main tank occupants or give them onto your lfs.
