Been out of the fish thing for a while. Just got my tank set back up and doing a fishless cycle. (Wish I would have known about this a long time ago!) Anyways since things always change was wondering if what I had in mind for my 29gal was to many fish? I want to put like 6 platys, 5 or 6 cory cats (either bronze or pepper) and 5 or 6 otto cats. I have a emperor 280. Just would like to get some feed back from Ya'll. Thanks

Two many bottom dwellers plecs don't always get on with corys, corys are good though but won't clean the algae up.

I have had a good experience with corys and ottos, the ottos arent on the bottom much. The platys and corys sound good to me, but i would only go with 3 or 3 ottos for that size tank

I would say you could just about manage all of them BUT - platies will breed and should be kept in groups where the sexes are at a ratio of 2 females or more per male. Females are also larger than males. To save space, I'd suggest you go with 5 males.

Furthermore, to save space, go for bronze cories and stick to the smaller number of 5 - peppered grow slightly larger.

Also, don't add the otos until the tank is mature. Leave it a few months, 6 or more is best. This will both mean your tank has some algae around for the otos to eat and that it is stable and mature enough to deal with a larger bio-load. Adding plants to the tank would help keep the otos happy and healthy and also keep the water quality good. Again, going with 5 (as opposed to 6) is less likely to cause problems.
