what do white scales mean? [head]

good question, i'm not sure... but it's most likely from the gene from the past generation.. but, again not sure

I really don't think it's anything to worry about as long as he's acting well. IMHO I believe the white scales are from old age. But if he's acting sickly, that's another story.

old age..

hmm.. i have a tiny new one with a white head..

hope shes not a midget betta thats actually 3 yrs old

hmm... kelly are you sure white scales on head is a sign of old age?

is it common in most bettas or is it from time to time, bettas will have it?

* used to have a cambodian bf male, (3yrs old)

well when i got them they didnt have white heads, im guessing its like a morning face cuz they usualy have it when they just start to swim after they see some food on the top of the bowl, it darkens up as they flare... [for taidei]

on the other hand...

in this case my betta [slurpie] looks a bit too white, the head has no coloring of its own and he wont flare at his reflection or at my other betta when i remove towel from his bowl [treating fin rot, 80 degrees right?]

ps: slurpie hates bloodworms, frozen or freeze-dried, LOVES pellets and cucumbers does it have to do with nutrition or something?

oh yeah, he ignored his pellets today so i had to scoop it up before they sunk...

oh yeah .. heh are sweat peas the same as peas cuz thats all i found in a can at albertsons and none of my bettas will eat it

do you mind posting some pics? we'll all love to see :D

Many bettas will change colors throughout their lives. I have one in particular who was a deep royal blue when I got him and he's gradually morphed into light blue and pink ;)

There are bettas with white heads ,J0hnny and llama. But that's not the case with Slurpie, this is a sudden change after a terrible accident not too long ago.

I'm amazed he takes cucumber,Slurpie  Try some zuchinni too, mine love it  Make sure you do extra water changes to get rid of his finrot, maybe a pinch of aquarium salt as well.

my cousin once had a female betta, but a few months after he got it... she started growing into a male, the fins were growing into a flower shape and the dorsal and anal fin were all growing and gaining some black color...

hahahaha, i would but my dad doesnt trust me with his cam, and he brings it everywhere cuz he loves photography so i have no chance to sneak it >=[

ill try zucchini, nd i just did one yesterday with some aquarium salt + stress reliever nd melafix...it kent go with each other..at least thats what it said

should i take the melafix off, cuz it seems to be a bit much, my other fish healed a 3 mm shred in his fin 2 days ago but im not sure if thats becuz i chnaged the water cuz thats when it began to heal or cuz of melafix

in anycase his fin rot isnt getting better, at least i dont think so..i stare at him too much, maybe the fin is growing and not the 2 holes in his fins yet =/ holes are like 1/2 a mm

im gonna take the towel off to see the effect..if that does anything

guh and oh yeah taidei has red stripes near his gills [2] =[

It sounds like you take terrific care of him  I'm sure he'll pull through for ya

Melafix... -_- I've heard bad,bad things about melafix. Supposedly the strong scent is too much for the betta, since they're air breathers. And melafix is actually too strong for bettas that's why they make bettafix, which is really, really diluted melafix. If you do keep using it (you think that's what's causing the white head? ) I'd only use a drop,a minuscule, itty bitty amount.
