I have had a bit of a juggle in my tank which has resulted in me rehoming my young pair of Belem Severums :( I always knew they would pair up as they were inseparable from being tiny and as they grew I could start to see issues arrising as they were thinking about spawning where my female Atapbo Severum lays eggs on a weekly basis and I could just not move the tank around to persuade any of them to move around... so the youngsters had to go.

So now I have in my 135g

1 Female Nicaraguan
1 Female Heros Severus sp. Atapbo
1 Threadfin Acara
4 Geophagus sp.Winemilleri
2 Agenisous sp.
5 Annostomus Ternetzi
4 Hoplosternum Punctatum (not sure if I am keeping these though)
3 Whiptail Catfish (1 Loricarade 3 Sturisoma)

Foot print is 6 foot x 18 inches so not thinking of anything over 8 inches. And I only keep American fish :)

I am thinking of a nice Rotkiel Severum tot polish the tank off but if I find the right fish I reckon I would snap anything suitable up :)

Any ideas?

Hmmm, it's always going to be a slight risk trying to add any new cichlid to those established fish, but you might get lucky of course !

Another sev is one of the least likely to work IMO, as your female atabapo might well not accept it. A different genus might have more chance of success. I have never, ever had any success adding another severum to an established adult severum in it's tank.

Other possibilties ....

A male aquiedens diadema/metae or similar (very hard to distinguish between a lot of these species !)
choc. cichlid
Big, male angelfish
A reasonable sized uaru (despite many internet rumours, these are quite happy as singletons once they get above 5" or so).

Choclate cichlid gets my vote wills. :good: but then again I absolutely love uaru's so if I could find one of a decent size then I may be tempted to go with one of these. My lfs has 2" juveniles, was so tempted!

I have had other Sevs with this one but I have to admit mixed results - she killed an other female Severus, but was fine around a male red spot and shes was fine with my male Belem and they got on quite well and she just ignored the female Belem but the female Belem did not like the Atapbo ..... wow that is pretty complicated but I would not rule out an other Severum all together for me.

I am really tempted by some kind of Acara I have to admit so will keep my eyes peeled but I rarely see any acaras :( Which is annoying.

Given the tank is only 18 inches wide I think its a bit harsh on a Chocoloate or Uaru as they are all pretty big.

Might have a wander today and see what I can find :)

I see where you're coming from but in reality chocs don't get much longer than 10", and adult chocs are VERY slow sedate fish. Uaru .... yeah, maybe not.

Well been out and come back :) And I have 3 Flag Tail Cats so very happy with them!! Going to swap them for my current Hoplos as they are just not as active as Flag Tails.

Was tempted by a Vieja Maculada but then knew it would be a bad idea lol - also tempted by a Rainbow cichlid and they had a nice big JD in but nothing quite right...

No it could be some time before I do that now as I need to wait for pay day lol :) Just need to find a good shop to do it lol.

Yeah I went through a phase of traveling to fish shops and getting stuff and it not working then having to rehome them asap and I just lost so much money so I had to cut it down lol - this was my first trek in at least 3 months now :)

groan... been out today around the shops in Hull and absolutely nothing interesting/ suitable /healthy in any of the "decent" shops its really really annoying :(

Nice big diadema here, in Nottingham,

I've been out In hull today And seen a pair of uarus today which looked ok £45.

To be honest after ings and MA there isn't much in hull, where do you get your fish from?

Hi where were the Uarus?

Frisbies is okay sometimes but IMO a little expensive. Generally speaking I go out of town for fish now :/ Just Fish in S#37###horpe is easily the best within a fair distance of us or Ferrybridge Aquatics is pretty good but you have to QT their fish as I have had way to many ill fish from them not to warn about it.

When I go out of town for them I either go to Pier Aquatics in Wigan (yeah its quite a trek) or Wharf Aquatics near Nottingham is also good. Pier is yet to let me down just a spectacular stock if you like South Americans :) Wharf is good but sometimes a little standard? Just Fish have some cracking fish in atm but just not sutiable for what I have lol.
