right been ringin around an this is the cheepest i can get it

for a 48x18x15 with hood, light, filter an heater +sand and stand im lookin at roughly £180 to £200

would u say that was a good deal on a 40gal? (uk)
id want this as an angel tank mostly
what other fish could i put in that? and how many angels? (not too crammped)

the filter is a shark 800 (or somthin like that) with carbon as im not much for my fluval that iv got (also got a shark in my smaller tank)

so what do u think?

 yay

or

 nay?

Hmm it seems pretty ok.

What is your budget?

I mean at my Lfs coventry Aquatics, they are selling the Juwel 180 (40Gal after displacement) complete with stand for £250 and the overall finish is much nicer than your average setup.

Some companies like Trimar will actually deliver your aquarium.

i was interested in the jewul... but seems everyones goin for them type of tanks (no offence to anyone who has one like) i want somthin different.. ok so a 48 tank aint different... its hard to explain
i just dont wanna shell out that much money for somthin that will out look the fishes (i must admit it is a nice tank) and also my lfs only do the jewul for 339... i can get my tank for 139 cheeper.

plus i lost a bid on a jewul an it put me off it...

i get it delivered for free the same night anyways as the company is my lfs :)

and hasnt there been a mention about the faultyness of them tanks????

filter causein high nitrates... glass crackin an floodin house cost ppl loads of money in fish??

hate havin to buy a new tank :/

but love the extra fish

Yes there has been, the bracers on my aquarium broke, but im getting them repleced and the shop will give me a guarantee, the yalso said that they would replace the tank if this didnt work out.

However in any aquarium you buy there is always a risk and a small percentage will have problems, i think that would happen with any product that is mass produced.

I have had a Juwel 240 for 14 months with no problems at all.

I dont think the filter is a nitrate sum, because you can siphon into the filter, and my tank was densley planted, and plants are nitrate guzzlers. Never had Nitrate higher than 5 ppm and im not Mr efficient at water changes.

One person in particular has had recurring problems with his tank, so im not suprised he has gone off the make, I was peed right off, but taking things into perspective Juwel seem to have a good reputaion on the whole.

Even so the proposed aquarium you are getting seems fine, but I think the overal Juwel package is great value.

Does you lfs stock Rena, Eheim? they are also great tanks, but they are newer and will be more expensive and they dont dominate the market like Juwel.

Anyway your tank is an acceptable price, its a standard size and is suitable for P. Scalare angels, not Altums. Just remeber lol, if you are like me you might buy your tank and then a few months down the line wish you had a larger one.

I have multiplied to three aquariums in 14 months. Just lucky I have my own house and no wife yet to be the bain of my hobby.

Its funny how many people are constrained by their wives lol. its the standard reason for not being able to have more aquariums.

i have my own house my an a bf who hates the sound of me sayin 'just one more wouldnt hurt'

hes said if i can sell my smaller one then i can have a bigger one... that goes for in the future also if i want an even bigger tank one of my smaller tanks must go...

i think (only think) a 40gal would do me for a yr... but sayin that... i thought my 15gal would be ok (4 months back).....then i thought my 22 would do me (2 months back) a 40 gal should do me for at least 6 months lol

the only problem is if i sell my 15gal i have to get rid of my fighters :-( as id have nowhere to put them :( got real attached to them as well....... unless i can safely place my smaller tank under my 3ft one and the stand could hold the weight.... its a metal stand.... do u think it could?

I said yes, because I have!

I got my 48 x 12 x 17 with hood and stand, filter etc for around that price.

But then I got my 60 x 18 x 18 for £305 including stand, hood, Eheim filters, fish sand, etc etc and set-up second hand.

Are you only interested in new set-ups?

no not realy.... but its the only one i can get at... iv checked local newspapers ect but cant find anythin.... and the only problem with ebay is u havb to collect... its fine if u live near them... but if u dont its harder to get at :(

It is possble to have a smaller aquarium under a lrger one in the stand, but you would need to check with lfs that the stand issuitable for taking the extra weight.
I have seen it done though.

The problem is transport with second hand tanks. In my home town of Peterborough, they have an excelelnt lfs called the Water Zoo, in january they were selling several display tanks, full setups (in terms of equipment) for around £200-300 and thet were all above 200 litres. I remeber them selling a Juwel Vision 260 litre (bowfront) for £200.

The other draw back with second hand aquariums is that they are sold as seen. If there are any faults you have little come back.

I know what you mean but it can be done. I got my 2 tropical tanks from eBay. The smaller one was delivered by courier and I contacted the seller of the biggest one and arranged that he would deliver if I paid the van hire, a mere £20 in my case!! And he set it up.

Might be worth having a look.

Have you tried here - http://www.supermart.co.uk/index.php

I don't know how good they are. I also put adverts on http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/ and I got a good number of responses, even up until a couple of weeks ago when I had my new tank for about a month!!

I still think the other one is good though, but it might be worth checking around.

HTH

P.S. Oh, and I know what you mean about b/f and tanks! Mine is like that, he is now like that with fish though but not too bad as I got my otos yesterday! I can always get round him ;)

It sounds like a good deal but i should warn you that a tank that is 15" high is not big enough for angels. With angels the height of the tank is more inportant than the length due to their tall body shape, i wouldnt advise keeping adult angels in a tank less than 20" deep.

With the jewels it seems it is only the larger tanks that suffer from problems, we had a rekord 120 for years and it never had a problem, the hood is still in use now on another tank as a temporary measure. But i have heard from several people including one of the guys from the lfs having problems with the rio 300 and 400's, it seems a batch or two went out with less than perfect electrical componants which juwel admit but on a tank that costs between £350 and £500 that isnt really acceptable IMO.

Hi nightlife20 :)

If you have one of those black iron stands, they can hold a lot of weight. But, another thing to consider is whether or not your floor can hold it.

well.. bummer but i rang about orderin this tank it turns out the woman on the other end of the phone didnt know what she was on about she couldnt add up (aparently she got the wrong size tank  )

so now the price is 251

this is what im gettin for that lovley price

filter 19:99
heater 18:99
light unit 19.99
tube 12:99
hood 39:99
sand 19:98
glass part of tank 79:99
stand 50:00
