I am about to rehouse 5 orandas and a baggy eyed goldfish from a 30 UK gallon to a 52 UK gallon tank, I have searched the board but have not found a description of whether they like gravel or stones, house to play or hide in, big rocks or whatever. As far as plants go I do put live plants in little pots in with them then they demolish them and I replace them every week or so. I am going to use a big external filter. which will have sponge, bio balls and ceramics in it and a long under gravel (or whatever) airstone.

Any suggestions?

Sorry I can't help much with this one. You will probably get more replies if you PM a mod and have them move this to the Coldwater Fish and Ponds section.

Well you will either need to cycle or clone the tank before you add fish to it. Just add alot or artifical plants to it so you won't have to spend money every week.

goldfish like caves, rocks, lots of plants they generaly like gravel to stones and open area to gather.
they also like there water changed or topped up every two weeks with warmish water

I had sand in my goldie tank, and vallisneria plants, rocks, and a few amazon swords.

my goldfish tank has:

gravel as the goldies live to scavenge off the bottom
a bubble stone as they love to swim in the bubbles

i actually have real plants, elodea, amazon sword and twisted vallis. none get eaten but the vallis is continually up rooted but just a case of pressing back into the gravel.

i also change the water twice a week to keep it clean and fresh as they seem to poop loads

Hi there. I have fake plants, bogwood, some gravel, al little bridge and have just added some java fern and some java moss. You can add real plants as a food source if you want to add some less tough greenery...
Is your 'baggy' eyed goldfish a bubble eye? If it is you need to be really careful to have absolutely no sharp edges or spiky things at all in the tank as their bubbles are very easily burst...
Good filtration is a a must as they are very dirty. I do a weekly 25% water change and gravel clean on my tank. HTH ;)

I have cycling under control thanks.

Thanks for the input , looks like gravel with some blunt rocks and a powerful pump for the airstone! I change a third of the water once a week and hook out a lot of waste. (seems to appear just before and after feeding!).
