I would have to say are polyps they grow fast and consume a rock in no time. but what about you?

Not a weed as such, but Xenia grows so fast as to be a bit of a pest.

Traded plenty with the LFS but reaching a point where I've no little rock frags left and might have to start buying in some more to keep going. Trouble then is a lot of the free space (floor area) in my tank ends up with little xenia frags growing on, to trade later.

correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought polyps were part of the anatomy of most (all?) corals and not considered a coral in itself?

You are right however I believe he means the Zoo colonial polops. These coupled with Xenia and mushrooms are far the fastest growing soft corals. One of the Members of the Reef club I belong to has just taken apart his 12'x4'x4' tank after the Soft corals beat the SPS in a 2 year battle. Most of the SPS where but in an 8'x3'x4' in his garage to save for the new tank.

I find that xenia is the fastest grower in my tank.

I would have to say either my brown polyps (not sure of the exact species) and my green star polyps. I had a 2X1 inch cube and now it is 4X4 two months later. My brown polyps grew an extra inch (in total area) in one month.
