I'm just starting to read about betta genetics ... and so far I'm thouroughly confused, LOL (but still trying) ;)

I'd like some input on what color/type of female I should look for to breed with one these males:

I'd like to attempt keeping the red/white/blue pattern, but I know that would probably be difficult without having a sibling female to one of these two. I can't find any "American Pride" CT females either. :(

What would you pair with them?

sorry, i'm no help in this stuff. i just wanted to compliment you on your fish. wow, those guys are just adorable. I can't waite to see their offspring. ^_^ Goodluck!

Aww thanks. :*)

I don't know if/when I'll get a chance to breed them. I *hope* will find the time/money/etc. to do it though. I'm just trying to plan ahead at this point. ;)

if i were you i'd cross him wiht an opaque crowntail female. I dont' think that'll give you pure white offsprings, the babies should have some blue and red nad of course white in them, you can then further cross that generation to strengethen those colors.

But i'm no genetics expert either so dont' beat me up if you dont' get that kinda babies : :p

Haha beat you up!? Never! :)

I'm a big fan of opaque bettas anyway -- just another excuse to buy one. ;) (As if I needed a reason LOL)

Humm

Try Aquabid Search Thai Flag Pattern

Or like CC said OPAQUES!

This will conation White Geno and Red Geno and Blue Geno I think.. :look:

i doubt youd get many clean opaques if any at all.. if you bred a female opaque with that male..

maybe just find a multi colored female with similar colors

i dont' think he wants to get any white opaques, since he said he wnated to keep the blue and red in the white i suggest a white female, you should be able to see the blue and red through it.

Yeah, what cutecotton said -- I don't want opaques (well, I mean, I like them a lot -- but I'd like to keep the red white and blue splotches).

I found a site last night that is an IBC chapter in Texas (I think?) that raises "Warpaint" bettas and they look VERY simmilar to the one I have, so I wrote to them about possibly getting a female. Hopefully I'll hear back! :)
