What Cold Have Hapened

Well he could have torn it on something in the tank. Is there anything sharp or pointy in the tank? Stiff, pointy plastic plants are often a cause of this. Also, what about excessive flaring? Is he near any other male bettas or other fancy looking fish or anabantoids like guppys or gouramis? When a betta blows out a fin by over flaring it usually starts as a small hole or tear in the inside part of the fin, but if it was a bad one it could have ripped all the way outward. Also, there is always the mystery tear, sometimes these things just happen and there's really no rhyme or reason we can come up with for it. So treat him with Melafix (10 drops per gallon for a betta, not the dose recomended on the bottle as bettas a re sensitive to it) and salt the water (1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water) with freshwater aquarium salt or kosher/rock salt from the grocery store, but don't user regular table salt as it contains iodine which will kill him. This will help reduce his stress level from being medicated. This about covers everything I can think of, good luck. :good:
