Right now I have about 20 fry that got moved from the 3 gallon to the 10 gallon tank. The only smaller weak filer I have is for the 3 gallon.

I also have a under gravel filter type deal. Its got a plastic tube that is about 8 inches high. I do not have gravel in the tank, bare glass bottom. If I were to use this I could put it in a corner and put some gravel over it.

I do have a ten gallon stock filter that came with the tank. Now I was thinking about covering the intake of that like I did with the other filter and use that. Would that be too powerful for the fry still? They are 2 weeks old.

Some help on this would be great.

ahhhh under gravel filter... it doesn't do anything, but recycle your poop and everything... you cannot clean the gravel because it traps everything under neither it... get rid of it. i had it.. just to try it out when i was younger... horrible, made the water yellow and when i switched to another filter and lifted it up... poo city going on....but that is just my opinion on it.

well i find that fry like current, if there is no current when they are young they stay near the bottom and die... i kinda do survival of the fittest. i would say if you just have the fry in the tank, and nothing else, and there is a current coming off of the filter you have now it should be fine until they are bigger and faster. you can put a 10 gallon filter in with them, but put it to one side of the tank not the middle, so there is a less current on one side to let them have a break. and put a sponge over the intake and they wont become sucked up.

In my experience the best filter for a fry tank is an air operated sponge, something similar to algarde. (algrade??) A moderate flow is good, however most powerheads or internal power filters will suck fry in.

Use your small filter and add an air powered sponge filter. Cycle the filter for the ten on your larger tank, then when your fish are large enough, swap the small powerfilter for the bigger one.
What type of fry are they?

yeah I got the bio filter in my 72 gallon filter right now so it will be good and ready when its time to use it.
I guess I will go to petco and see if they got something for a sponge filter. I do know the pet stores I go to dont have anything like that.

O and they are Albino Corries. They are turning orange! Which is good because they are tough little buggers to see when cleaning the bottom out.

Yeah I have a fine mesh netting I can use over the intake. Its really a breeder net that I picked up as a spare one. It will be to one side. The flow from it does not seem to be too bad to be honest. Just that the little 3 gallon really is not cutting it in my eyes. There is really no current what so ever in there I got desperate and added an air stone just so I could get something going.
