I recently moved a Betta from an unheated 1 gal tank to a nice, heated and filtered 5gal.

...What should I do with the 1 gal? I know I can't put any fish in there, but what about snails and shrimp and frogs, etcetra? =D As long as there's something living in there I don't mind. =)

African Dwarf Frogs are fun to watch and if you get males, they will make an interesting humming sound. One or two (if you clean it more often) would fit in a small tank. Just be sure it has a well fitting lid. :D

Why can people not put little fish in a tiny 1 gallon tank but its okay for shrimp? or frogs who get relativly big? They are living things too and do not deserve to be trapped in a TINY prison to "live" their life. It's not fair to keep anything living in a "tank" that small.

I agree with TFL - Flowers.

Kaisa - African Dwarf Frogs get no bigger than my thumbprint. Cherry Red Shrimps are only about an inch and really low on the bioload - if the OP had a good substrate, some live plants, some sort of filtration and circulation then I can see it would be OK for shrimps.

But like I said, personally, I agree with TFL anyway.

Put some lime-free gravel at the bottom, then two-thirds fill with peat. Then go buy a nice carnivorous plant. Cape sundews are by far the easiest, but some of the hybrid Sarracenia are pretty good too. If you're good with plants, then a Venus' fly trap is an option, though remember not to keep closing its traps!

Place on a sunny windowsill, not too warm, and preferably in an unheated room in winter. Water with rainwater or deionised water, not tap water.

Enjoy. Get hooked on carnivorous plants. Go buy more them. Raise from seed if you're patient (good fun though).

Cheers, Neale
