I have a 2 inch common pleco.. my tank is still relatively new and I'm worried he isn't eating enough. Is there anything I can feed him that won't spike my ammonia levels? LFS recommended vacation blocks but I have heard a lot of negative info on those. I already know that I should have waited to get a Plec until my tank was established but there's nothing I can do now, I just wanna make sure he doesn't starve!!!

Any thoughts?

xingumike i think he said common  so you can feed him lettuce and courgete and cumcumber aswell :good: p.s. i think u might need to rehome him eventualy as they get big about 50cms in lenght i think can som1else clarify?plz

oops missed that.

Yeah, algae wafers, courgette is a favourtite, other veg might work.

Occasional prawn as a protein treat.

Don't bother with cucumber no nutritional value, all it does is make a mess.

Yes commons get big and get there quickly, expect a foot in under a year probably.

Food adding ammonia is the least of your worries, you have added natures great ammonia producer.

Why did you not wait?

To be fair i did this aswell. Brand new tank set up. A day later got a common plec bala shark and 9 guppys... All for a 60litre :-/
Now however 6 months later the pleco is 8" really chunky and enjoying the 4 foot tank. Bala died and the guppys are now more like 50 in 5 tanks. The point is everyone messes up at some point.
As for feeding mine love algea wafers when he was smaller.
Now he will hand feed microwaved courgette he loves it so much, just be sure to remove it fairly quickly to save your water. Although these are loved by him good old fasion algea is definatly a number 1.
Mine also enjoyed chomping through an angelfish not that long ago... Lol

It may have eaten the Angel but it didn't kill it, they are scavengers rather than predatory.
