Hi guys,

Little question for you really. In my tank I have x3 powerheads, x2 pointint slightly up at each end of the tank to give the surface a ripple and x1 across the middle of the tank.

Anyone the reason for the post is that when you look at the tank you can see loads of little white particles floating around, any ideas on what this could be???

It makes the tank look a little dirty as its runing the crystal clear look!

My gf's parents have a freshwater tank and its crystal clear, almost as if there isnt any water in the tank but mines not looking like that.

Any ideas on what it could be or what I could do? it maybe the sand or something?

Cheers

so as in like floating around? or on the surface..? if so i get a scum on mine as mines got not much water movement at all so it does, best thing to do, which ive got to get around in doing is buying a small pump just for water turbulance.]
then it will slowly dissapear.

Well, the saltwater world is way different from the freshwater. Very often those little white specs you see floating around are living organisms (small copepods). About the only ways I've heard of people eliminating such an occurrence is with strong flow to a sump and an ozonator of some sort.

So are you saying it would be best for me to have all pumps into tank putting roughly to centre to help? or should I loose a pump?

It just makes the tank look messy

Actually, I'm saying without a high-flowing sump its very difficult to rid yourself of those little white particles. I have a pretty slow-flowing sump with a UV sterilizer and I still get those particles. Remember, lots of these "specks" are live organisms, they dont just go away with moving powerheads. You either have to kill them with an ozonator or UV sterlizer and then catch them within a chaeoto refugium... There might be other ways to get rid of them, but if there are, I dont know them
