I got 5 of them earlier today & know sweet blow all about them.... Are they easy to keep, are they good community fish, how big do they get, have they been bred and if so... how, Please... anything you can tell me about them. I like them and they also make little squeeky noises when in the net.

try something like planet catfish :good:

what i know is that they are a catfish so they WILL eat anything that has the potential to be (smal enough) food so feeding them should be no challege.
other than that, they are perfectly peaceful in every other way.
they have the potential to grow to about 8 inches.
and they are a southern american catfish...from the amazon and place like that

:good:

Pink.

Lol I saw a 15 year old raphael in an aquatics center in Peterborough. It was larger than 8" by a fair margin. Beautiful creature.
I have 3 somewhat smaller beasties, including a spotted version. I rarely see them unless I move the tank furniture around or suprise them at night. They spend the majority of their time in their large cave home ignoring me entirely. I have heard they will eat any fish small enough to fit in their mouths. Mine live with some big fish so it doesn't worry me much and they do make the cutest squeeking out of water.
Mine feed on the catfish pellets and algae wafers I put in for all my bottom dwellers, plus bloodworm and various other meaty things occassionally. So easy to feed, hardy, tough and somewhat secretive.

Yes! that is our flag... Rainbow nation as they say....(multicoloured) in the sig, is our National Flower , the protea and then of course... my favourite fish the Chocolate Gourami.... Thanks for the info though.

cool,my grandfathers friend use to live there till he past away and he would send me gifts from there.

Have the same arrangement with a friend of mine in Luton town....Iain Fraser...At Christmas time every year they send over their "innovative" little things, & I send them whatever I can get hold of....Packaging & delivery normally costing a lot more than the presents!!

IME Platydoras armatulus are slow growers but will usually reach sizes of around 8" I rehomed one off a friend and in the two years I had it i saw it about a handful of times, (all late at night). They tend to be much more nocturnal than most other catfish species but can be taught a routine if they are fed at the same time each day.
They are also reported to live for around 22 years
