I just started cycling, so I have some time to decide, but I know I'd like to have an eel, probably a Snowflake. My problem is, I'm not really sure what I can have with the eel. I was thinking about a Tang and a Porcupine Puffer, I also like the idea of live coral and maybe some Fire Shrimp. So my questions are; can these things share a 75 gallon take with an eel? Will the Fire Shrimp end up getting eaten? Also, I'm very much open to suggestions of other possible Snowflake tankmates as I'm not real experianced. Thanks! -Kyle

You might have more luck in the marine section mate.

I'm not overly knowledgable about eels but there are people that keep them on here. The tang and porcupine puffer will most likely be fine. The fire shrimp will almost certainly be eaten. I think corals will be ok though.

Like I said I'm no expert so wait until someone who knows more then me can confirm this or tell us that I'm completely wrong :)

PS. Welcome to the forums :)

The fish will be fine with the Snowflake but the shrimps may end up as lunch

Snowflakes are usually fine with fish - I have a 2ft one and he is as good as gold

Be careful when you get it as they are escape artists but once they have been in the tank for a while they settle down

They are also fine with corals

Thanks for the help guys. You're right Barney, I probably should have put this in the marine section, sorry about that, I'm new to the sight. And, STD, that's great news about the coral, I was worried about that. Anyway, thanks again. Somewhere in a pet store there are a couple Fire Shrimp that thank you too. :)

Agreed. If you still want the shrimp, try introducing it first. Often they leave cleaners (including fire/blood shrimp) alone.

I had a fire shrimp at first too but he was always hiding. I think they are a shy type. After a week, i hadnt seen him and never have again. I would not recommned them. You might be able to put in cleaner shrimps but i dont know.

My potential issue will be the long term prospects of the porkie in a 75 gallon (assuming US gallons). Having owned one and seen their swimming potential (and requirement for entertainment) I woudl think a 75 is a little small for a full grown one (but fine for a good few years).

Also, picking specialised invert eaters from the wild and keeping them with inverts that they often eat is a recipe for problems. You may get lucky with a cleaner shrimp, but it takes a life time of lucky to succeed, and only a few seconds of failure to waste a life and lots of money.

I prefer to keep my SW preds without the food they would often eat in the wild.
