What Are They?

Ben, had him nearly a year now

Bill, arrived yesterday. I assume he's also male due to tail length. He's a mix of white through purple and blue to red, depending in the light angle.

I'm not sure what species they are. Any help?

Betta splendens.

Both look like veil tail bettas to me

They are both VeilTail Betta Splendens.

Both of their fins are very torn up, especially Bill.

Bill does look beat up poor guy. I would use Melafix for his tail and fin damage.

Thanks guys. Bend photo is old now, he's a lot healthier after I learned tank care properly.

Bill is a lot younger, probably only a few months old I guess. Can the fin treatment be added to a new tank then? With other fish?

personally I wouldn't treat, just do a few water changes a week and his fins will heal up in no time at all
