what are these things in my tank

i keep noticing little black round things on the surface edge of my divided male tank, they almost look like poppy seeds but smaller, i do regular 100% water changes but these things keep coming back, what could they be?

Do you use a carbon filter? If so, my best guess would be carbon particles from the filter cartridge. I had that problem whenever I got a new cartridge before I stopped using the filter.

no don't use carbon. could it be eggs of some kind?

It might be seeds from plants . . . I don't know what snail eggs look like (probably too small to see with the naked eye). Do you have pics?

Weird . . . I really don't know. If you'd found them on a dog I'd say flea dirt, but in a tank I honestly have no clue. Anybody else out there?
