What are good fish....

Platies are often recommended and do seem quite hardy. I would still recommend going fishless though; I did it (with the help of the forum) and it was really satisfying, feeling in control, and not having any fish deaths.
I am more optimistic about guppies than OohFeeshy, I love them and keep them, but I do feel that they should be counted among the less hardy fish now. If you do want guppies, fishless is the way to go.

My Great Uncle Don used guppies to cycle his tank it looked wonderful. I think I might try guppies. But im still not sure :/

As I've said on your other topic, don't use fish for the sake of having fish in a tank. It will only take a few weeks, and while thats going on you'll have time to get everything ready- deco, plants, QT, hospital etc.

EDIT- Just remembered I've got a personal experience with the guppies. Imagine newbie, rubbish advice, uncycled tank, 3 guppies. All died within about a week. And then after that it took me a month to cycle it properly. However, my 20 only took 2 weeks, I just dumped in a load of bloodworms and left them until ammonia and nitrite were 0.

Ive made my choice and Im sticking with it

If you already have tanks you don't even need to cycle - just clone an existing one. Either run the new filter on an old tank for a week before setting up the new tank with fish from the start or use old filter media and/or gravel from an established tank and add fish slowly.

I have been keeping tropical fish for over thirty years now and there seems to be a lot of talk (especially on this forum) about cycling tanks with or without fish. I have always set up a tank from scratch with gravel and decor, switched everything on, heaters, filters etc and left the whole thing running for two weeks before putting in any livestock. I have never lost fish yet. There seems to be far too much emphasis placed on cycling IMO. Yes fish-keeping is a vast and technical subject but beginners are being blinded with science from the word go. Medications, Water parameters etc, etc, etc. People used to buy fish tanks for beneficial theraputic values. now look at the hobby, there are more stressed out aquarists than ever.
Sorry to sound off on your post, It's just that I'm getting a little brassed of at this whole cycling phenomenon.
Sorry

Please start acting more responsibly. You appear to be wanting to cycle a tank with guppies. As I have said, this will probably not work out well. You also seem to want to put a plec in it, most likely common. Do not do this either. If you are not going to listen to everyones advice, then you are going to learn the hard way.

Cycling with fish works fine too. Im going to use guppies and I dont need to do it the most common way or way that every one says is the best.

If you've already made your choice and are not listening to the advice that people have taken the time to reply to your post, Then why did you join a fish forum in the first place. Use a little more tact.
