Well I picked up my 'new' 28l tank this morning for my adf and after a brief flirtation with the idea of having a Betta in there too I decided to get him some froggy friends instead. So I checked Tropical fish finder and found a couple of outlets nearish to me who stock them and set off. I'd heard some good things about World of Water in Romsey so I was quite excited (as I get when visiting a new fish shop) but boy, was I disappointed. Fabulous for dry goods and outdoor stuff but the fish were not the healthiest (several deceased and Bettas with a lot of missing tail housed with nippy tetra) but I thought I'd have a look at the adf anyway. A nice looking tank teeming with froggys but no adf. They looked like acf and the sales assisstant said they were American Dwarf frogs whatever they are. So an hour and a half round trip wasted I thought I'd try the second on my list - Maidenhead Aquatics at Windsor which was 50 mins in the other direction from my house. Well, I duly put the postcode into my satnav and set off only to arrive at a small cul-de-sac as I'd written the postcode down wrong

. So, 3 hours into a quick shopping trip I decided to go to Maidenhead Aquatics at StAlbans as I'd seen adfs there before. Another 50 mins later I arrived and lo and behold there were the froggies

at £4.50 each! I had a browse as you do and I have to say it is the best kept fish shop I've seen along with the best and healthiest fish! I now need yet another tank to house all the fish I wanted to buy! However I only left with the most expensive frogs I've ever bought at £4.50 each plus about £50 in petrol!

Moral of the story? Phone first before you travel as they may not still be in stock! Oh and moral number 2? Get yourselves to MA@St Albans!!!

But you had fun, thats what counts!

I have two MAs near me and they are great!

My local MA is attached to a Wyevale garden centre and they have a 'no amphibian' policy. Also after seeing the stock at St Albans, it makes my local one's stock look far inferior! They've not got bad stock, it's just St Albans had amazing stock!! Particularly Rainbowfish which are notoriously bad quality in the UK. St Albans had some fabulous ones including wild caught Blue-eyes which I was sorely tempted by but not to the point of seriously overstocking for!
