so this little guy seems to have appeared in the tank, no doubt in the new pieces of live rock we recently introduced
any idea what kind of crab he is? hes pretty cool looking (almost 'glows') but im hoping he's not a threat to anything in the tank!

To me, it looks like an emerald crab. Mithrax sculptus. Native to the Caribbean. If it is an emerald crab...

They sort of have mixed personalities. Most literature says they are reef-safe algae eaters, some say they attack sessile invertebrates. They tend to be herbavores and eat a variety of algae, icluding bubble algae. I was heavily considering this crab in my biotope setup until I learned that one of its favorite foods are the fleshy green algae species I plan to put in the scape. hahaha, no mithrax for me, though I may end up with one as a hitchhiker, as they are common in Florida LR.

Very cool freebie, and a beatifuflly colored specimen.
 
Agreed, it does look like a M. sculptus
