fascinating to watch. lots of algae in the tank, my spixi apple snail is piggin lazy!

Yep, looks like Atyopsis sp.
Remember if you see it trying to pick up food from the ground, you will probably have to start target feeding :good: .
Lovely shrimp :).

thanks for the tips! what's their preferance? meaty stuff or vege stuff? he's currently investigating the holes in the bogwood...

They are filter feeders, pretty much anything will do, dissolved algae wafers, powdered flake mixed with water, or marine invertebrate food :good: . Comes in a bottle, you can buy it at your lfs, you will need a syringe/turkey baster to feed it. The trouble with most of these foods is that the shrimp isnt going to catch and eat all of it no matter how hard you try...which means more waste in the water.

Really to start with just crumble some flake into powder between your fingers and 'sprinkle' it on to him so he'll catch it. Or use the aforementioned syringe and mix it with water.

Bamboo shrimp. :) Nice!

I had an idea earlier concerning fan shrimp actually... I sometimes buy Tetra Delica jellied bloodworms. The shrimp find them a nice treat. They're a little shy, but you can almost hand feed them from the packet.

What I was thinking was -- that jelly the bloodworms come in is rich in nutrients, and diluted with a little tank water it would probably be quite easy to target feed to your shrimp.

As for waste food, perhaps a couple of amano shrimp (if you have any, or decide you like shrimp and want to buy more) would be a big help in cleaning up after him...
