What Am I?

I've only had this one for months- no clue if it's a girl/boy or even what kind of pleco it is.... I hope the two pix are good enough that someone can help me out......

looks abit like a female Bn pleco or it could be a common. what size is it??

Looks around 3.5" but I'd say that's not a BN - wrong shape and fins.

And I don't think we're seeing the "true" colours either. I suspect that fish is usually a solid dark colour instead of the blotchy display (which is a form of camouflage).

It was a bit of a mouthful and everyone keeps abbreviating it to their own version anyway, so though it's easier this way

looks like a common to me, mine is just a bit lighter and a little different in patterns , what size is it?

it's about 5 or 51/2 inches long. and it is blotchy- sometimes orange, sometimes lighter brownish gray- depending on where it is (and the fact the tank lights were off)

is it a boy or girl? can you tell?

It's a common, I have 4 of them and I can't see anything that would indicate if they are males or females - no telltale anythings going on underneath them, it's all a mystery to me still.
