Hi all,
hope you can all help me with your invaluable advice....
got my breeding tank all set up etc, got the female in a plastic bottle cut off, etc like i have seen on here,
but a couple of things are bothering me, my female has gone from being a plcid wishy washy blueish colour to a very very dark almost black head deep blue body....
my male will creep up under the bottle and then flare at her, no problem there, but she has started flaring I mean really flaring at him, does she just not fancy him?
after nearly 24hours of being in there, his nest is very sparce, just a splattering of bubbles, and i mean prbably 20-30 bubbles......
should I wait a bit longer, or release her for a bit, I just don't want them to get hurt :(
Thanks in advance to all who can help..... x

Hi,

Does your female have dark bands on her? Sometimes this signals rediness to mate. I'd take the colour change as a good sign. I

f the female is not shying away from the male then this is also a good sign.

Sometimes releasing the female will stimulate the male into making a buuble nest as she releases hormones into the water.

Most times there will be fin nipping at some point in the mating process so i think it is unavoidable, just make sure your female has plenty of hiding places to avoid the male if she needs to.

Keep us posted!

sorry missed out the bit about the stripes/ bands, I think she has, but she is soooo dark its a bit difficult to see lol

hi oofeeshy

hellooooo again
have just been watching them and yes she does have the bands on her.....
think i will leave them for another hour or so then try them together for a while, will let you all know how it goes

ok....
well have released her in with my male and first of all he chased her for while flaring lovingly at her....
but now they have swapped , she is doing all the flaring and chasing, and he swims away like a scaredy cat.!!!!!!
He keeps hiding from her.....
what should I do now, does anyone have any ideas, pleeeease

Just checking, you get all sorts just chucking two together.... Are the stripes vertical or horizontal?

Ah vertical thats breeding bars.

Stress bars are horizontal.

How are things going now?

If it looks like it's not going to happen try removing her for a few days.

Absence heart fonder and all that :D

Edit - is there something floting on the top for him to build his nest in/around?

They like floating plants and even half a styrofoam cup to build it in!

Fishcrazy....... my male is similar to the one in your pic.....

I will try and get pics later, camera not good tho!!!
I do have a polystyrene half cup in with them,
Well got up this morning and there is half a nest ( I think) not brill tho,

will check again after work, and get back to you all
