I have a 5g hexagon tank with a undergravel filter. I would like to get a Rena pump. I heard that the output written on the box is the max and that it is never that. What model should i go for, should i get the next model up?

The Rena 50 should be sufficient for your tank. Its suitable for tanks 18-50L, so even at its lowest its good enough
