Well a while back i lost my P.Ornatapinnis and each time i looked at the tank it was missing some essential pollyness, so i got to mithering my lfs fo an unusaual polly, (he always seems to get in cuviers birchers) and two week ago he got me a weeksii thats about 7" long. It hides all day and wouldn't feed fo ten days. Eventually i got fed up and shoved a lance fish in its face and sat and watched it for an hour, and all it did was headbut the thing. Soon i got fed up turned off the tank light and i saw it engulf the fish just like that............... (is this normal)
Also it only moves around at night (i know they are mostly nocturnal but not completely right?) and i have to check its not out in the open each morning as i turn on the light as it attempts to bury its head in gravel the moment it turns on or tries to shove itself in any handy hidey hole, its rather weird but im afraid it may hurt itself, is there anything i can do to curb this anti social nutters fear of light?

P.weeksii is one of the more nocturnal bichirs and most specimins will rarely move in daylight hours. If you want a active bichir then P.senegalus or P.delhizi is your best bet.

Add P.polli to the active list (often sold as P.retropinnis) As for your weeksijust leave it alone its been my expirence many bichirs take time to settle in .Its hiding because its scared or frightened I have a bichir it took almost 6months to settle now hes out patroling HIS tank all the time .-Anne
