What a deal!!

I was at my LFS today looking for feeder guppies when the clerk pointed out that they also had "feeder platties." I got down on my hands and knees to take a closer look and sure enough they are just baby platties but this is the awesome part!! They are selling them 5 for $1.00 or for $.99 each. Some of them are almost full grown...Or else I can pay $1.49 at Petsmart. They also had there Pearl Danios 3 for $1.00. <-----That's what I ended up buying..On a side note...Is there a difference between Pearl and Zebra Danios??

I dont get the 'feeder' thing? Is that only in the USA. Are they being fed to somthing else?

Pearl and Zebra danio are different species of danio.

Feeder fish are a disgusting practice. They feed the fish to larger carnivore fish like oscars. Most feeder fish are crammed into tanks at the pet stores. Sometimes hundreds of them in a 20 gallon tank. They usually end up having diseases that can kill the fish (and anything that eats them). I would quarantine any feeder fish bought for at least a month.

I think pearl danios and zebra danios are close cousins because their coloration and patterns are almost exactly the same. They aren't the same species though.

I would have loved to get some of the feeder platties....I think they just call them that because they are small...Kinda like feeder guppies and feeder goldfish...But in order to buy some I'd need a new a new tank..

Feeder fish are a disgusting practice

you are right in saying that when feeding then to fish like oscars which accept dead food but for some fish that will only eat live fish, it is god practice to get them on to dead food as they would die with out them.

I had a friend who lived on nothing but chinese food and pizza for a week, he wouldn't tough the stuff for a month.
