Hi all, Ive got 2 small angelfish and 4 mollies in a 64 litre tank, any ideas what i can add in next???

I would really like guppies, but would the angelfish eat them because they are quite small???

Many Thanks :good:

TBH i think you are close to your limit now,and angels ideally should be in a larger tank than a 64 litre

Hi there welcome to the forums, I have to agree with above about the angels. 64 liters is around 10 gallons most angels will grow to at least 6 inches in both length and height, even just on the basic inch per gallon rule which I am sure you will have been told about that means that with just the angels you have 12 inches of fish plus the mollies at upto 4 inches each you will have problems in the future unfortunately. Personaly I would swap all your existing fish and swap them for more suitable fish for a 10 gallon tank or upgrade to a 30gallon tall tank in the very near future :)

you may add 12 neon and cardinal tetra, clown loach, corydorous etc.

I have to agree with the others. Angels get far to big for your tank. They won't be happy and won't thrive like they would with a bigger tank.

I have read this type of stocking suggestions from you a few times now, please dont suggest stocking ideas if you dont know what you're talking about.

For a start, the op's tank is already overstocked with unsuitable fish for the tanks size, the angels needs an 18" tall tank minimum and mollies grow to 4" and prefer brackish water.

Secondly, if your stocking suggestion was meant for after the op had rehomed the angels and mollies, then clown loaches are are absolute absurd suggestion, they need a minimum of 350/400L and reach over 12" in length and also need to be kept in groups of 4/6+

I think you need to do a little research on specific fish as I seem to remember it was clown loaches you suggested to another user for a very small tank.

I'm not trying to be nasty but it is these sort of suggestions that causes newbies to come on this forum daily asking for stocking help as they have overstocked the tank based on bad advice.

Agree with Andy. DiscusLover, its important to try to be careful when giving advice in the beginners section. We all slip up and make mistakes at times, me included, but I agree with Andy, that stocking advice was absurd!

I would hopefully be able 2 upgrade fairly soon, but if i cant i would have 2 give my angelfish bck 2 the pet shop :-(

But would the pet shop except them bck, because someone told me I cant because they wouldnt risk putting infections in there tanks???

Any advice would be great, thanks...

Sometimes they will take them back, especially if you say you might lose them otherwise. Or perhaps they or someone else would let you post a flyer saying free to a good home and explaining that your tank is too small. Local aquarium societies can be an option sometimes or a post on a want-ads list.

If you end up thinking about a tank upgrade, I suppose a 29 tall would be the minimum size that might work, although Andy probably wouldn't agree with me, lol, and would probably say a 55g!

It is a shame the LFS (local fish shop) sold you angels for a small tank, see if they will swap them for some guppies?

Hate to say it but I also think mollies get too big for 64l.

I know, i should have done some research before i bought my fish! The LFS do anything to sell the poor fish!

I really hope I can upgrade, because I thought 64 litre was big when I bought it. but it really does limit the amount of fish I can keep!

A 100l would be fine for the mollies but angels need an 18" tall tank about 4ft long.

Pet shops will take exchanges . . .One employee told me never shop at a fish store that takes returns, but thus far, I haven't found a place that refuses exchanges.

I say, take the fish back and get 5 or so male guppies and plop them into your tank. 64L is around 16 gallons? The Guppies will have a blast. One the tank has settled in, you can add a group of 6 pygmy cories. The combo of those two species of fish is hilarious and entertaining.

a 55 would be ideal :p

In my opinion I agree with waterdrop, a 29g tall tank would be about minimum for an angel fish, they arent a particularly active fish but do require at least 18" deepness of water.

Its not recommended to keep 2 angels unless you get 2 that have already 'paired off' otherwise they will tend to fight which can lead to one killing the other. Angels ideally should be either kept singularly or in a group of 5+ to disperse aggression. If you managed to get 2 that had already paired off then that should be fine.
