Hump Back whale songs are culturally transmitted and have similar structure to human language.

Forget aliens. Up until very recently, humans have been too self centered and stupid to look at intelligent life around us. When we saw it, we killed and ate it. Then we told ourselves how smart we were.

I would like to be alive in 100 years to see how these breakthroughs in understanding play out. We've only begun to catch on fairly recently.

I do too. In fact I read your post yesterday!

Captain Kirk grew up on the same street we lived on when my daughter was born. The next block up. It was a quiet place, only livened up by the occasional bad actor.

Wow Leonard Cohen, William Shatner. Did you grow up in Hollywood?

Montreal. Leonard Cohen grew up about 30 minutes walk away up the mountain, in a mansion. His slumming poet's flat was in the area where I lived, just above Marie-Anne street. The place may have had tribbles in the kitchen around the pipes.

After Star Trek, for a while there Shatner looked like he could speak whale.
