Not really a fishy tail, but does anyone know if the hair over the eyes of a westie should be trimmed or should it full over their eyes (like a lot of westies have). My wife thinks it must be irratating for them and does not look right. I think its only the westie look. Can anyone throw light on this non fishy tale. Many thanks.

Do a google image search for Westies, you will see that the hair is full, but not covering the eyes. The proper grooming for a Westie is to strip the coat, and scissoring the furnishings.

Here's a link to a Westie stripping chart; http://www.atlantawesties.org/ProgramPages...omingchart.html

And a stripping link; http://www.harborside.com/~laurelt/handstrip.htm

Clipping destroys the integrity of the hair, plugging the hair follicle, giving a soft fluffy coat. A proper Westie coat, like many terriers, is a double coat; a soft undercoat with a stiffer, more wiry outer coat.

There are tools such as the Mars Coat King and the Furminator that do a half decent job of stripping, they never impressed me much.

Thanks Tolak for that response. I shall take a good look at the lonks you supplied. This is what I thought - the hair is full, but not covering the eyes. But how do they keep it out of the eyes. A lot of the pictures I have seen actully show the hair over the eyes. I shall keep looking and many thanks again.
Regards
Phil
