Just want to say that I went into my very local Pets At Home (formally Petsmart in UK I Think) today (it is stuck between Mataland and Comet so I was passing anyway).

Petsmart get a lot of flac on this forum so for this particular store I would like to offer a :good:

No dead fish, very clean tanks and good guidance was being given out to obvious novices that I heard.

So OK, they still sell a lot of garish c**p and very some very unsuitable tanks but there again they have too being a chain store.

They also have medications, buy 2 for £6 which is an incredible over other LFS (Whoops, didn't mean to advertise  )

Anyway, well done that store and others in that chain should take note ;)

aren't you in the uk? there are petsmart stores there?

Had a bit of a senior moment there again  (happens a lot since I turned 50!)

I meant Pets at Home which I think was formally Petsmart here in the UK. Edited original post.....thanks for spotting :good:

I'm only 17 and i remember it being petsmart too. But back to the subject, P@H are going through a big renovation thing at the moment. They really seem to be doing better.

out one in basingstoke is a bit of a dump although its better in the last 6 months. still not great.

the one in newbury is a lot better. clean and no dead fish. also they offered a replacement opaline when my other one passed for no reason. Selection is not great but for run of the mill stuff. as to meds and food they have it all and at ok prices so i get most of my food here.

oh good, thought I made it up!

I have heard so many bad things on this forum about Petsmart so I just wanted to sing their praises for once but completely forgot that they sold out to Pets and Home in the UK

A lot of the stuff wouldn't interest the more serious fish keeper but there is a big space in the market for a shop chain like this for the beginner and the cost conscious.

As long as they match their fish stock to the staffs experience

The pets at home store near me is a joke..

Tanks are bad, not looked after, crap advice, very over priced fish and other stuff... i hate stores that have a one for all water system, disease spreads to all tanks very quickly and they are useless at my local p@H and everytime i go in (usually for the cat and dogs stuff) there is at lease 2 tanks contaminated with summat or other..

P@H rating in my book = -30/10 total garbage and useless staff (If you work there thats right, usless - stoneferry road in HULL)

:)

Hi, I was just giving praise to that particular store not the whole chain nor did I wish to start a name and shame campaign.

I give credit where it's due as I would complain but to the source of the complaint not just to vent

My loacal P@H deserves name and shame lol

Sorry for that rant lol..

Wll done on your P@H though for being :good:

Absalutely no problem.....I can understand reactions to bad fish-keeping especially when they are in a position of trust and guidance to others

Mine Are 2 Different .
The one near work is brilliant and the staff ask all the right questions and talk with customers about the fish. Wife bought me fish from there on thursday and not 1 single fish has died.
I also went back to have amlook and chatted witht the 2 fish guys who are into fish in a big way. i have them looking into better types of fighters.

The one near home is a laugh, Hardly anyone knows what they are doing and they Are having there Bird License Revoked because of complaints logged with RSPCA and the Council.

It looks like the chain of Pets at Home are far from consistant.

Anyway, from what I saw and heard my very local one is OK and if it wasn't I would tell them so!

In fact, rather than complain on this forum I would suggest that more people should make their views know to the manager of store in question. Hey perhaps we could form a posse and do a tour?
(Just remember, even the best LFS can have a dead fish in a tank ;) )

They've redone the one in my hometown (in the retail park off Barrack Road, Christchurch) and it looks gorgeous, very bright and tidy and neat. They have quite a good range of stuff in there as well, not just the usual predictable fish. Haven't spoken to anyone in there about anything but I know someone who works there and I've seen her fishtank, so I know at least one person there knows what they're doing. :good:

Anybody have any idea what the Exeter branch of P@H is like?
I went in there for like 3 years while living there but it was before I got into fish and I never even looked round the fish bit, I only know the small animal section.....hmmmm

Just a random note- I drove past my P@H yesterday and they've changed their logo from a cat's head inside a dog's head to just "pets at home" in lettering
