Went to pets store to buy 2 chinese hamsters after losing our Syrian (RIP Porridge). After looking around we found 2 which we liked but there was only 3 in the tank so we felt bad and decided to take the 3rd Brother. Hilarious to watch, we know have 3 hamsters running in one wheel at the same time. Called Tom, Dick and Harry!

I bought two for my son a few weeks ago to replace his syrian

we never see them although they do look cute

plus I read about them and they are meant to fight if kept together which isn;'t what the shop girl told us

i bought a hamster last july and i was informed it was a male...then 4 days later it gave birth to 14 babies!!!!!!!!it was a chinese hamster..while we were there one was mating with another one

you may find this useful info

russian dwarf and chinese hamsters are normally fine with each other until they are older then many of them do fight (sometimes to the death) and do need sperating

my 2 used to be absolutly fine with each other one day they started fighting and it did not stop so i had to split them up as one started getting injured

for now they should be fine but a warning for when there older just keep a eye on how they get along :) maybe they will be fine i hope they are but just bear in mind what can happen :)

EDIT: females are also extremly prone to tumours i lost one due to a tumour the other one now has a tumour under her bum they are more prone to them in old age but just try checking them over every now and again :)

Thanks for the info they are all brothers so hopefully there will be no problems if there is i read that increasing the cage size and levels allows the less dominant hamsters have their own area. Pretty much similar to fish. Sorry to hear about the females. We know someone who has quite a few and last year she was playing with her syrian and all of a sudden the hamster began to have a fit and had to have it put down. Sad times!

I don;t think the fact there brothers has a lot to do with whetrher they get aggressive or not

have you seen much of yours? They're a bit shy

brothers or sisters can fight but i hope they do not its not that much of a nice sight when it gets serious and you can get your hand pretty messed up trying to stop them lol

but they are such fun animals when my female dies i am tempted to get a huge cage and just get loads how crazy and fun would that be to watch lol!

oh a good way of taming them is setting up a play pen (make sure bars are very close together) filling it with toys and a couple of empty loo rolls.

First few times you get them out just let them run around in it and find out whats happening there will be some poop as they may be scared lol but after a couple of days let them run into a toilet roll tube pick it up and let them run onto your hand they will most likely dive off for a while so keep your hand very close to the floor but they do calm down and can sit on your hand for quite some time :)

Dont do what my dad did he just kept putting his hand in there cage and letting them sniff it but then they bit it all the time but he said "no no i wont pull my hand out they can get used to it" about a hour later he had a very messy hand and i had a couple of hamsters which had tasted blood lol
