as some of you may be aware, i've been trying to find something to breed besides kribs. so, a couple weeks back i finally decided on some Badis burmanicus as my new adventure. they came in friday before this past one. due to extreme busyness and the work week from hell, i couldn't make time to buy any frozen food until thursday  however, they are now wolfing down the frozen brine shrimp and it doesn't look like i had any losses. :kana:

can anybody pm me some links on additional sources of information on badis? i've not been able to find too much on the burmanicus; everybody's obsessed with Dario dario.

moving on past my badis to my being very bad... when i went to the Petco on Thursday to buy the frozen food, they had dwarf puffers!!! :hyper: although i don't techinically have room for them, i went on ahead and bought the two they had. i've put them in my 2.5g (the betta having recently been relocated to my parents' place) for now. they're not nearly as active as my SAP, but i'm amazed at how tiny they are. imagining a 1/2" puffer and seeing a 1/2" puffer are completely different ideas. now i understand why noone ever believes that DP's need 5g of territory each!

here's my current plan. the kribs are going to be removed from the 60g just as soon as their current spawn can defend themselves (1~2 weeks). the badis should only take 2~3 months to reach an adult size; all but my best pair will go into the 60g at that point. the preferred pair will be moved into the 10g. the SAP and the DPs will then be relocated to the 20g. hopefully the DP will not display their characteristic savagery before that point.

i need to upgrade the filter on the 20g at some point and i was thinking of trying out a cannister filter. anybody have any recommendations? the new penguin hobs look pretty hot and tempting, but has anybody tried them yet? my roomie and my bf both complain about the splashing, so i want to see if i can't find a very quiet setup.

you bin bayid

most info on B. badis badis should work out for these guys a well ...[ 'cept they'll with stand lower temps ].........anyway

I yahoo'd you some sources , they may be slow at responding , but I think you have time ;)

good luck with them ............I've put off getting mine till the freezing temps here subside .a week or 2 .

new plan! i'm going to have to divide the 2.5g--i'm already seeing signs of territorial chasing :S

i finally found more black khuli loaches!!! :kana: :kana: that is going to be one full 10g....

have you tried breeding some of the larger cichlids ? things such as convicts are agressive, but very easy to breed, blue eye cichlids are perfect, growing to a 4" adult size they breed every 2 weeks if conditions are right, also there are the tangynikan cichlids, julidichromis sp. are very easy to breed and live mainly in the caves and such. i kept some juli's with some kribs and no harm ever came from it, but my julies interbred and i have some very strange fry lol, but anyway if your looking for some interesting fish to breed theres plenty out there just google them :)

actually, i'm giving up on kribs due to their aggression levels and incredible fecundity. thanks for the recommendations, but i've already found what seems like a good replacement.

now if i could just wean them onto processed food...

 not gunna happen , unless by processed you mean previously live food being frozen or freeze dried

I should say ........not likely

yeah, i know its just wishful thinking. i do hope to get them onto freeze-dried at some point, but i'm not really in any rush.
