Probably best to breed a Crowntial. Same amount of effort, and in the end, there are probably too many veils around.
A bit OT. I have always wondered why so many veils were being bred. A friend of mine bred veils late last year, and basically the whole batch looks pretty okay. They vary in color and fin lenght, but that is about it. So a veil breeder, breeds a low priced fished but can sell most every male he breeds.
Recently a batch of Crowns arrive at the LFS. The fish came from Malaysia apparently. About 35-40 of them were sold as Crowntails. The finnage quality varied a lot though. Than there were 3 or 4 times the number of combtails, roundtails and fish that looked like Delta's but with tiny spikes. A lot had fins so short, they were actually brought in as females. There was even a male Plakat in the bunch (maybe got thrown in by mistake)
The main point against breeding veils is that you will have no where to send the fish you breed since no one will want them. I started to realize of late that whether I breed Crown, Halfmoon Geno's or Veils I will have plenty of fish that will be hard to find homes for.
Between the poorly developed Crowntails and the not so nice Veils, the Veils look better.
I would think though that Halfmoon Geno's (assuming you match a pair with good colors) would yeild the least number of "mutts". Even the humble Delta (90-119 degree caudal fin is still a pretty impressive fish).
