i set up my 75g fowlr friday night, after it was running for about 4 hours i started testing my tank for it's levels. Then again at noon on saturday. everything was still in range so i went to the LFS and bought 2 blue damsels and a Emerald crab and a few more pounds of LR. so far they are doing well, the lvls in the tank are still holding. I did do a 20 gallon water change today, just to test out my salt mixing. i wanted to try it with cheap fish in there and see if i could still keep the salinity right. like i said before everything seems to be doing well. I am also started to get little critters or something growing on the first batch of lave rock that i put in. the girl i talked to were i got my LR from said that if i was lucky enough i would clone there tank by adding their LR to my tank. I just don't feel that 40 pounds of LR would clone their tank. does anyone know of what she is talking about.

...Huh? That's a really strange remark. Maybe she was meaning that you would be able to duplicate the ecosystem the store's tank(s) have if you set up yours in the same way.

cloning a marine tank is using there fully matured rock, that if not kept out of water for too long wont create much of a cycle, and have most of the beneficial bacteria still on it, kinda like cloning trops i guess by using mature filtersponges etc .... well thats what i guess they meant anyway may be wrong!

I cloned my first reef tank (35l): live rock from the display tank, water from the shop system and a cuc. There were no problems except eventually you get to realise that the wellbeing of the tank is precarious if it is very small.

so do you think that is what happened to my tank, I let the lady pick out the best LR they had and it wasn't out of water very long, the whole time out of water it was wrapped in newspaper.
