Hi all

1 - rio jewel 180
t8 white and blue
teratec ex700 external filter
2 powerheards 1 with hydor rotator
fine coral 1mm then live sand oolite to go on top of fine coral
test kits
seaclone 100 protein skimmer
thermomter/heater 200 whatt
30kg ocean rock
all above not used yet
hoping to set up on wednesday this week then after few days
purchase 20kg of live rock either from smt or uda can not decide on which
then let it all cycle using 2 prawns ?
ok ? 1 do i need to use eggcrate
to put rock on ?
ok does this look ok i have read that much my head is bursting
please dont say my skimmer is rubbish cause its the one i was recommended

would just like some positive anything really

iam looking to keep few soft corals clowns 2 of maybe with a anemone in future
thankyou for reading and replying
p.s i wanna sleep without dreaming tanks rocks etc and waking up thinking my god have i got it right lol

I wouldnt say your skimmer is rubbish

What I would say is whoever recommended it needs a slapping :shout:

What size/turnover is your Powerheads (I have recently downgraded to a 45g, which is around the same size as a Rio 180 & have a turnover of around 35times the tank volume ie 6500lph)

What type & output is the Lighing - you may have to beef this up a bit

What you thinking of using the external for ??

Are you going to use 30KG's of Ocean & 20KG's of Live Rock - Personally I would stick with Live Rock as the Ocean Rock is probaly a good bit denser & wont support life as well (I would say you would get away with between 20 - 25kg of LR)

Both UDA & Stm offer excellant LR & both are cracking stores, justa pity UDA is a 120 mile round trip

Do you want to use Eggcrate , I dont like the look of it TBH, but it is usefull in allowing full use of every surface of you Liverock

For the moment I would give the idea of a Nem a dunt on the head, until your tank settles & is mature & you are Aquaint in it requirements

get your RO water up to temp & salted, add your Live Rock, Test every 1 - 2 Days, for Ammonia, Nitrite, you will geta spike wait for the reading to get to NIL, do a full batch of Tests & if theya re all as they should be then start adding your stock - Slowly

I would also get some Rowa - Phosphate remover

:good:

thanks for the info
just wanna get the basics right then build from there when money permits
oooo no fish are way in future iam not daft lol
not gonna use whole ocean rock just go it in case to fill or level LR off
my lighting is the jewel hood with 36 '' arcadia t8 tubes in one white one blue
the external for say water movement and if need to add anything to clean the water
the powerheads are maxi jet 600
- maybe need stronger ones but will do for time being
gonna get some rowa ph remover was thinking of when i purchase the live rock
anyways the skimmer will have to do till i can afford another one
i know marines take time iam not in no rush
maybe in future get the t5 lights

think ill for get about the egg crate lol

TBH, you will be best addressing the flow issue at the same time as you get you LR as Flow is integral to healthy Live Rock, without a decent flow you would as well just use the Dead Ocean Rock

The external would be a suitable place for Rowa

After the initial setup , all you have to wait for is your Ammonia & NitrIte rading to Zero then you can start adding your Clean UP Crew & a fish or 2.

Powerheads & a better skimmer, I personally would make a priority, you will see the big difference between Skimmers when you upgrade :good:

thanks so thats next on my list then new skimmer and buy another powerhead think that should cover it a more powerful one
ooooooo gawd nightmares about skimmers again now any recomendations plssssss
was thinking of just adding clean up crew once cycling over then let them settle in then get a fish maybe 2 chromis
that should start me off
:D feeling lot happier now thanks chac ur a star
