I went to my favorite lfs today to get information for a thread I started in Tropical Chit Chat and to buy worms. The last thing I needed to get was another fish.....but.....among the drab and droopy bettas I'm used to seeing was one I just fell in love with!

He's gray with navy blue and turquoise specks and he has a split tail. It's a perfect V. All his fins and his tail are outlined in maroon. He's not a bright fish like I was hoping for, but he's beautiful. He's small, but perfect. I think he's a little young yet. With his coloring, I think he'll be elegant or sophisticated when he gets older.

So, I brought him home and but him in one of my grow out tanks with some young corys. So far, he's just hanging out at the top of the tank but I hope it's just a matter of his feeling strange after being in a little cup. (my lfs keeps the bettas in those cups that hang inside big tanks, so at least their temperature is controlled and they are clean.)

He ate live bloodworms shortly after I got him home, (ate and ate--like he was starving) so that's not a problem, but he looks a little sad and lost. I don't think he's even checked out the corys yet.

I hope he turns out to be as sociable as Ruby!

awwwww he sounds lovely, like a DT doubletail I believe (going by description)

Keep your eye on him, he may want to be a solitary tank betta :/ , but also keep in mind...this is the biggest day of his life! He had such good food and so many new things to see, can't blame him for being a bit cautious

Hi :D

Do you think it's possible for a tank to be too deep for a betta? Ruby has been in the 10 gallon and now in the 20 gallon long which is shorter than the regular 20 gallon.

Well, I don't think he's even tried to go down to check them out yet, so that might not be the problem. It would be a shame if it is because I have two more tanks just like it that I was hoping to put betta in on top of the little corys.

If I have to, I could just put up a 10 gallon for him.........
