Weird Water Test

This is my second time doing a fishless cycle so i know the whole routine about how the nitrites spike real high. But when ever i test my nitrites they start off the dark purple indicating nitrite levels but after a minute or so they turn light blue that indicates low nitrite levels.

My kit is an API kit only 3 months old.

Anyone know what i should make of this?

Hi, I think I am right in saying that it is indicating that your nitrite level is right off the scale.

What ammonia level are you showing?

the ammonia levels go from 5-6 ppm to zero in about 8 hours.

The same thing happened to me during my fishless cycle. Nitrite is off the chart like doresy says. You'll know it's back down when the drops don't start turning purple as they hit the bottom. I thought I was nearly done when I still had like 3 weeks left because if I waited 5 1/2 minutes instead of 5 the solution got pale blue. Don't worry, it will get there and will be worth it!
