Ok I"ve been doing loads of research just in case my fishy gets sick (again) so that I can recognize the illness and treat.

One of the topics was constipation...

How do I know if my betta is constipated? I mean, i don't think they go potty like goldfish do.. you can really tell.

Can the betta die of constipation? I read a one day a week fast is good and that's what I did today... I know it's an odd question, but I'm curious to know.

Thanks!

yea bettas can die from constipation.. if u notice him/her getting really fat, not losing the weight.. then theres a chance he/she is constipated..

bioling peas and lettin em eat the peas helps them digest.. so if you think it might be constipated, give it a boiled pea

One of the main reasons for constipation is too much live or frozen foods. The fish needs some ruffage just like people do, to clean out their system. It is important to give a varied diet to your betta. I feed flakes on a regular basis. I feed the frozen foods to give them high protein, and the flakes to flush them out. I heat a frozen pea in the microwave. The shell will peel off. Feed the center of the pea to the betta. This is a good thing to do every week or so just to prevent constipation.

I dunno if this is what everyone else does but I put a single frozen pea on a plate and stuck it in the micro for 1 min (30s - soft but cold). Then I took the skin off and put half of the pea in and watched.

It was realy funny!! Reminds me of a doggie playing catch or trying to tear something up. He'd swim around his bowl with it in his mouth... heheh very cute. Then when he stopped eating it, I just took whatever was left out. It's like fun food, I think he had a kick out of it too!

HTH, what does everyone else do?

same thing..The time depends on the microwaves size..and if the pea is frozen. I put on a plate, and heat
