Okay, so this just sprang into my head and I don't really know how to figure it out - mind you I AM NOT going to do this to my tank but I was just thinking about it and I'm not sure so here's the question;

Does a pH lowering chemicals that you use in your fish tank do the same thing that a swimming pool chemical to lower pH does - do they contain the same chemicals as one another, or is the pool pH lower chemical just a high concentrate because it's a larger amount of water to treat?

Lol, I know this really has nothing to do with fish, but I just wasn't sure about these chemicals in relation to one another.

I am fairly sure you use HCl in a swimming pool. Nothing as strong as concentrated hydrochloric acid is in the aquarium bottles. The one that I have seen the ingredients on was a dilute solution of phosphoric acid. Phosphoric is also used by farmers when they want to add phosphorus to their soils. It is not safe to handle carelessly but a lot safer than hydrochloric.

not related to the original question but im sure in the API test kit nitrate bottle 1 contains something likw 40% hydrochloric acid
