I have a question, do featherdusters occasionally pop their "heads" off? my roommates featherduster hasn't been looking good even though the ich treatment was organic and said it was safe for inverts. but the other day it just popped it's head off! is it dead or will it grow back? we tried to get him out of the rock he is attached to and he's stuck there.

Yes, they do pop their 'heads' off. A new one should appear in about 2 weeks. Best just to leave it and wait. Did you feel it jerk slightly when you tried to move it? That's a sign it's still alive in there!

Yeah, they CAN grow back, but sometimes they dont. Depends on how stressed it is... Your only recourse is to provide stable clean water conditions and cross your fingers. If it leaves its tube and goes for a walk, its done for.

thanks for that we were a little worried. we think it might still be alive so we'll have to see! she just recently did a HUGE water change due to the ich outbreak so things are more stable now. :good:

mine did pop it's head off and people said it would not survive more than a months or two anyway. It's been almost 6 months now and it's fine. The head grew back and stuff. I do put fine filter feeder food from Micro-Vert or something. It's been good

Mine did too, left it's tube totally then grew a brand new tube, supposedly not that common but just leave it alone and cross your fingers!
