In my filter tray, the sponges rise to the top with the water and the water level is dangerously close to spilling over - how can I avoid this without having noodles in every tray?

Cant you wieght them down with that lead stuff that comes wrapped around plants maybe?

What sort of filter is it? One of mine just has space for the sponges which fill the area so don't move and the other has a plastic cage that holds the sponges in place. I have filled the cage with sponges and they don't really move.

Are you using factory sponges or have you cut your own from a big sheet? If you've cut your own you could try making them slightly bigger.

Edit: I just had a thought (ouch)... Is this for your tank upgrade? If it is i guess the sponges you have in the filter aren't the ones designed for it but are the ones from the old tank... To keep mine in place i wedged them between 2 bigger sponges. That seemed to work. An other idea is a filter media bag you can get from the lfs. This should have enough weight to make them sink.

make sure they don't have air trapped in them because they will make them float. Also if they are completely blocked up with gunk that will restrict the water flow thru them and they can rise from that.

No the sponges came with it.
Tis like this

I am used to having only 2 trays so both trays have sponges and noodles in and the sponges don't float up, but with the 5 trays I have now, I want to spread the media differently, but me sponges are going astray and if water leaks down the back it's all over!

Gosh y'all are quick this afternoon - good point Colin ya know, they are brand new so full of air [duh for the female moment]
