I've been trying to find websites about corys with a lot of info and I just can't seem to find much. Anyone know any good sites with a lot of good information?

I have 3 albino corys and bought 3 peppered corys yesterday and the peppers seem less active compared to the albino and I'd really like to find out if this is true? Also is it normal for corys to just stop and "sleep" for an hour or so ? I thought one of my new pepper corys was sick and maybe dieing because it was just resting on the bottom not moving but then I touched it and it sped away and came to back to life and started filtering sand. Maybe that's normal ? I just fed them some wafer broken up thinking maybe they weren't getting a lot of food at the fish store. They are all active right now and eating.

All websites and info is appriciated

That's about how my Corys act. They frantically swim around and sift through the sand for awhile, then they just sit for awhile. Sometimes mine sit on the leaves of the Amazon Sword, Banana Plant, or Java Fern, other times just on the sand. Sometimes they like to rest sort of on their sides - sort of like the loaches to - just to scare us, I suppose :p

Not sure about Albinos being more active than Peppers. I only have Peppers and Pandas now. It's been awhile since I had my Albino and I don't remember if he was more active than my Pepper or not.

Do a Google search for Corys or Corydoras or some related term. Cheese already recommended the site I was going to.

Grand little fishies, aren't they? :flex:

Thanks Cheese for the website it's got a lot of good info

Pamela - Yeah I noticed they kinda lay on their sides sometimes too while they rest  It had me worried thanks for letting me know that is normal cory behaviour

The peppers seem a lot more active now they were probably shy and not moving around too much because they were getting used to the tank but they are following the albinos more up and down and all around the tank

They are gorgeous little fish..I can't believe I never thought about getting some before..I've been missing out!! I love how they sift through the sand..I call them my little pigs :p

I wish I could have all the species..not enough tank room though!! There is Swedens largest aquarium about 30 mins from me and they have about 20 species of corys!! :hyper:

www.planetcatfish.com also has a huge range of info on corydorya species. Information is usually very accurate also.

Hi Elisabeth83 :)

Congratulations on getting the new corys. They seem to be acting normally.

All corys seem to have periods where they just rest and other times when they play. It seems to me that the albino C. aeneus are the most active of all. especially when they are young.

Do you have a cave for them to retire to when they want to rest and get out of the bright light?

Thanks bunjiweb I'll check out that site

Thanks Inchworm:) I found a site yesterday with info on breeding corys and they documented the size of their cory fry every few weeks and from that I am guessing mine are around 6 months old. When will they be full grown?

I've bought some small pieces of driftwood and made caves for them and I alse have some low silk plants with big leaves that makes the bottom more shaded although they don't spend much time down there besides feeding time and night. Most of the time they are buzzing up and down/ back and forth the aquarium.

They remind me of jack russels  Always on the go!!

Hi Elisabeth83 :)

It's hard to tell the age of corys by their size, since some of them in any batch will be larger than others, and females are always larger than males.

While they are most playful while they are young, they will still play when they are older too. It seems to me that the albinos are them most active of all.

Are you asking when they will mature because you would like to breed them? If so, you will be happy to learn that they will begin spawning some time before they reach their full size, although the number of eggs will be fewer. :D

Hi Inchworm - No I'm not planning on breeding them I was just wondering when they will reach full size out of curiosity. Albino corys only reach 2 inches right? My albinos are about 1.5 inches right now. My pepper corys are about the same size as the albinos but they reach about 3.5-4 inches how long will it take for them to grow to that size?

If males stay smaller than females I am kinda hoping I have more males than females
