I had a idea of broadcasting my fish tank over the net using my webcam but the problem is that i cant as my fish tank is in the living room and my room is 3 meters away, but i was think of getting a USB extention cable so i can put the cam in the living room...
so what u think??? should i get a extention cable or a dummy computer???

you could do a wireless cam buddy and connect it via a tv card

Wireless would be the best option if you can afford it, but a cable should be fine if you want it wired.

setup a wireless network and get a cheap laptop...

hook the laptop to the webcam and voila... fish on the net (see my first attampt at www.smithrc.f2s.com)

USB can carry over several meters, I'd say get a 5m cable if you want to do it on the cheap.

If they are in seperate rooms you may need to drill through a wall. I had a mate do that, he cut his cable in half, drilled a small hole (this was through his door frame) and reconnected the cable just using a regular electrical connector block.

go bluetooth or wi-fi. bluetooth is the easy option. extention cables are messy and expensive. you could aways move ur computer.

I think the whole point here are USB cams are 10 a penny.... anything else costs mega bucks...... hence his question.
