Hey,
Ok... for a start i'd like to confirm that this is a Weather Loach, and secondly are they a type of eel?

Every website or caresheet that i've read about them says their very peaceful fish that live happily wih other tank mates, even ones as small as Danios. Awhile ago we rehomed ours to a friend as they had a larger tank, but after that our friend had a couple of situations where either a fish had been attacked or killed. As this only happened once he'd taken in our Weather Loach - he got the blame. Other fish in my friends tank, include Silver Sharks, Gourmai's, Angel Fish and Danio's etc.
We got a new tank and set it up for the Weather Loach, and now have it back at home.

I'm wondering if this is normal though? I've only read good things about them, and he never hurt any of our fish when we had him in our first tank. I know they get excited and do 'bump' into tank mates... but is this aggressive or normal behaviour please?

certainly looks like a weather loach but not a normally coloured one, they're usually quite drab looking.
BUT they are a coldwater fish living in streams and rivers.

FYI they are also NOT a type of eel.

same family as the stone loach i think but not as common in the wild.

They are commonly sold as either gold weather loach or gold dojo loach and I would put money on it not being the loach that is causing these problems,

Angels, Gouramis and Silver sharks can all get quite territorial once they mature and if two have paired off this would easily explain the injuries and deaths,

do you know the tank size and exact stocking for the tank?

Hi

I have one of these lovely creatures and he is very peaceful and minds his own business. He is very entertaining to watch and i also would put money on it not being him causing the problems...

Thankyou for the replies. :)

I'm not sure exactly what other fish my friend has, or how many of the ones i mentioned, but i know its a large tank - around 200 L. I know Angels and Gourami's can be territorial and aggessive at times, but he said he'd had no problems until he took in our Weather Loach... strange.

Thankyou again for your help.

dojo/weather loaches can live in both cold and tropical water, they thrive in coldwater though, and In tropical water, they'll be fine, they just live a shorter lifespan. I currently have one, however, he is in my tropical tank, and not my coldwater tank, because my coldwater tank is only 10 gallons, and it is the same temp as the tropical tank (summertime!)

I have one also and by day he is a mild mannered sleepy head and at night he goes Psycho crazy back and fourth at 2x the speed of #### for several minutes then calmy sits on the bottom awhile and back at it again Hes fun to watch albeit a little nutty
