WOW! Our beta was not looking good for a week or so and so I decided to look for forums to see what was the problem. He had velvet but since it was a good week and a half I thought he was doomed  but it all turned out good. We used ich medicine and got him a new 5 gallon tank with a filter and a heater. His spots are almost gone! Thanks for everyone here that helped my girlfriend and me save our fish. :D

One question though...with his new tank, we have a whisper filter. Is it normal for the fish to be struggleing with the circulating currents? He really only has trouble when the water gets put back in the tank. It seems to be on the lowest setting and it doesnt look like the water is being dropped to roughly.

I have a Whisper Mini on my 2.5g. It doesn't disturb the water too much at all. If I keep the water up close to the level of the outflow, he's still interested in building bubblenests.

Edit: Friday night typos. :*)

Ich meds for velvet!! That's great,I never knew it would work for that. Thanks for keeping us updated,I learned something new. :)

yup i never thought it would either but the guy at the fish store gave me that bottle and it says on there that it for velvet too. It's called NOX-ICH. 3 day treatment. It's one drop for every gallon. It worked well, the velvet went away in two days.
