I have a 30 gal heavy planted freshwater but dont see much topwater movement (HOB filter topfin pro 50). I thought I might need a wavemaker but which one? The freesea would be in my price range but there is a single and double head. Does anybody have experience with those or are there better ones?

Wave makers are normally used in marine tanks to create a washing motion for corals and anemones. A normal air pump and airstones (as mentioned by Jaylach) is the best option for increasing aeration in an aquarium.

Wave makers are actually a great tool for larger aquariums and used just as much for fresh water as marine. Surface agitation is one factor to be considered but just as important is filtration. Wave makers can help to keep debris suspended in the water column for longer periods of time giving your filter intakes more opportunity to soak up the waste. Just have to make sure that your specific fish species can handle the current.
