people keep talking about buckets when doing a water change, but when putting replacement water back in.. surely a watering can would be easier??? am i being a daft newbie.. have i lost the plot?

Watering can would be fine, so long as it was new/ no chance of any garden chemicals being in it.
Except that it would be almost gauranteed to dribble over your living room floor, leaving you with the choice of confessing to the truth or to bladder weakness to your other half....

gotta be easier than a bucket or 30 trips with a coke bottle..
 
I carry the water from tap to tank in a bucket and then pour it in using a plastic measuring jug (useful fish implement to have as you can use it for dosing medicine too). And I pour it over the Juwel filter so as to cause minimum upset to the plants and substrate.
